Reports indicate that a general strike took place across Kurdistan in ran on Thursday following a call by Kurdish political parties, with widespread closures of shops and businesses extending beyond Kurdish-majority areas to several other cities across the country.

According to reports, markets and commercial centers were shut in a number of cities including Isfahan, Tabriz, Hamedan, and Kerman. Videos and images circulating on social media also showed shopkeepers and merchants joining the strike in cities such as Arak, Bushehr, Karaj, Fardis, Shahrekord, Shahreza, Nourabad-e Mamasani, Gonabad, and Ardabil.

Local news channels reported extensive shop closures and a halt to commercial activity in various sections of the bazaars in Tabriz and Urmia. In several cities, including Mashhad, Kerman, Hamedan, and Shiraz, the strike by merchants was accompanied by street protests by groups of citizens.

Media outlets covering Iran’s Kurdish regions reported that both large and small cities across Kurdish-majority provinces were observing the general strike. A protest witness from the city of Qorveh in Kurdistan Province told Radio Farda that more than 95 percent of shops in the city had been closed since Thursday morning.

The witness said that despite severe economic difficulties and poor business conditions, merchants joined the strike. He added that shopkeepers closed their businesses “without fear or hesitation,” noting the presence of security forces across the city but saying participation was so widespread that authorities were unable to force businesses to reopen.

Cities reported to be participating in the strike across Kurdish regions include Ilam, Kermanshah, Sarpol-e Zahab, Ravansar, Paveh, Kamyaran, Sanandaj, Qorveh, Bijar, Marivan, Baneh, Saqqez, Divandarreh, Urmia, Mahabad, Bukan, Oshnavieh, and Sardasht.

According to the Hengaw news website, citing verified reports and videos it has received, widespread strikes are currently underway in more than 50 cities across Kurdistan.
